Mikhail Shkanin was born in 1972, in Smela, the Ukraine. In 1985 - 1988 he was trained at the art school. In 1989 - 1990 studied with Aleksandr Mozgovoi. In 1993 Mikhail Shkanin enters Kiev Architectural institute, and, in parallel he studied in the Academy of Fine Arts in Kiev with well-known artist Zoya Naumovna Lerman. In the atmosphere of creation, which reigned in the class of Zoya Lerman, he created his first paintings. One of the works from that period "Beggars" (1994) is now in a private collection in Moscow. He had two solo exhibitions while still being a student in 1998 and in 2000. Participated in the all-Ukrainian exhibition of painting (1999), in the group exhibition of Kiev artists in the gallery "On Kreshchatik" (2000) and in the exhibition under the aegis of the spiritual foundation "Spadshchina" (2000). From 2000 lives and works in Moscow.
